The year is 2019, you're walking by the streets outside Cebu Normal University. You meet students wearing the shirts of colors red, blue, green, yellow & purple - each of which indicates the different colleges they belong to. You hear the banging drums and the echoing trumpets of the marching band as they welcome you to the premises, amplified by the scorching heat of the sun that shines upon.

This time last year, we had the fair opportunity to experience an academic break, putting away our pens and papers and ditching them for banners and flaglets. Whether you aimed to bring the gold, showcased your talent and skills, gained new experiences, had fun with friends, or just signed your attendance - we were all given a chance to be physically one as we celebrate a myriad of activities that is Intramurals.

With the theme “Breaking barriers and achieving excellence through sports,” the 4-day event consisted of various games, shows, performances, and competitions for the students of College of Teacher Education (CTE), College of Arts and Sciences (CAS), College of Nursing (CN) and from the satellite campuses, CNU Balamban and Medellin to participate on.

Aside from these, students under the specialization of media and journalism were also given the shot to exercise and hone their skills by being the media men and women of the said events. Student councils once again rendered their utmost services as the key organizers of these large-scale activities. Spicing things up were spectators cheering along for the success of their respective teams through their motivational support.

A lot of notable things have happened during the last Intramurals. We brought with us the victory, the camaraderie, the interaction, the roaring chants, the lessons, the crown, the injuries, the bruises, the shared laughter, the photos we took, the 'kilig' moments we tried to conceal, the breakthrough, but most importantly the development of our physical, mental, and social well-being.

Looking back, we felt the gratitude, the excitement, and in some instances, the anxiety as to how these events would turn out. Each one of us hoping for another year to once again commemorate and embrace these kinds of emotions. Now it's 2020. Everyone is at home, pampered with schoolwork, casually reminiscing on what it was like to feel the thrill before the ill.

It's quite fascinating how so much can change over a year. Sure, this pandemic might vanish completely, but that lingering feeling of fear and the system of the "new normal" will somehow hinder us from achieving that amount of intimacy before. Suffice it to say, Intramurals might never be the same again.

Nonetheless, we can always find ways to constantly drive on the things we used to do before. This pandemic might put a halt on physical contact yet it will not stop our growth. We may not be physically there to compete and cheer on each other, but always know that Normalites are rooting for each and everyone’s kind of triumph. Let us continue to break barriers and achieve excellence in our little ways. Commbati and Padayon!
